Whether you’re wanting to visit Nashville or make it your home, it’s important to know if Nashville is even your “scene”
The “Country Aesthetic” is Real!
To no one’s surprise (and if you’re surprised, you have a long way to go) Nashville is built on “country.” What I mean is, Nashville’s foundation is built on country music, so people in Nashville do embrace the stereotypical “cowboy” and “cowgirl” styles.
Although tourists are usually the ones found in “cowboy attire” (boots, mainly), and even though wearing boots can seem “tacky” to locals living on the boarders of Nashville or Downtown, the style is still a Nashville staple. Since this “country” style is a staple in Nashville, it’s not “shameful” to wear country aesthetics here, so don’t let anyone tell you to hold out on wearing those cowboy boots. Performers, employees, and the general public in Nashville hotels, bars, and streets embrace the Nashville style wholeheartedly; the style of Nashville isn’t just a stereotype, just like how country music in Nashville isn’t just a stereotype, either.
(And even though wearing boots can seem “tacky” to locals living on the boarders of Nashville or Downtown, the style lives on!)
Ask Yourself this Important Question
If you’re wanting to be in the heart of Nashville, which would be the Downtown area, there will be country music everywhere. So, a question you have to ask yourself is, “Do I even like country music?” or “Can I at least tolerate it?” While it’s not essential to love country music to visit or move to Nashville, be aware that it’s not “going away”; just like if you were to move to the heart of New Orleans, jazz music isn’t just “going away.”
Really, if you want Nashville summed up for you in simple terms, read the sign above.
Nashville has deep roots and the people there connect to Nashville’s past (which you’ll read about in the next section), it promotes following your dream so you can “work a meaningful job”, people here strive to be a “darn good neighbor” (little country twang there), it’s always humble, and around every corner, there’s a story to be told.
So, if you like the ideals you read from this sign, Nashville could be a city to consider.
So yes,
In Nashville you can’t avoid how on busy bar streets there will be country aesthetics and music, and stores, hotels, and the local radio will play country tunes, but in a city with so much background in country music, you can’t blame Nashville for embracing its country music charm and aesthetic to its full potential.
